Alpha Esquires Program Application

Mission

The Alpha Esquires of Indianapolis Youth Mentoring Program cultivates Leadership, Scholarship, and Brotherhood amongst adolescent boys through academic, social, career, and community service programming.

Brotherhood

We are not looking for participants who are not interested in serving the communities in which they live.

We are not seeking participants who do not take academic excellence seriously.

Most importantly, we are not interested in individuals whose actions will put Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Alpha Esquires of Indianapolis Youth Mentoring Program, or their personal brands and well-being at risk.

This ship does not need anchors.

Requirements

New participants in the Alpha Esquires program must participate in at least 80% of scheduled programming.

Attendance is taken at each virtual and each in-person meeting. Full participation during program workshops ensures quality development in the oaths of Leadership, Scholarship, and Brotherhood.
If a participant knows he is unable to attend a scheduled event, he should email alphaesquiresindy@gmail.com at least 24 hours prior to said event.

Participants in the Alpha Esquires of Indianapolis Youth Mentoring Program receive a program jacket and are eligible to earn other program apparel throughout the year. The program fee for the 2024-2025 Program Year is $150. Payment may be made via the following methods:

New Esquire Orientation and Participation Overview

The New Esquire Orientation Process (NEOP) is an eight-week comprehensive training program for the orientation and induction of prospective mentees of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Under the direction of the authority of the Midwestern Regional Vice President, the Iota Lambda Chapter Educational Activities Committee will oversee the implementation of the NEOP.

1. INFORMATIONAL: The purpose of the Informational is to provide a forum for Iota Lambda Chapter members to meet individuals and families interested in learning about the Alpha Esquires of Indianapolis Youth Mentoring Program’s events, activities, and opportunities for engagement. Individuals and families are encouraged to ask any and all questions at the Informational.

2. APPLICATION (Prior to NEOP): To participate in the Alpha Esquires of Indianapolis Youth Mentoring Program, each young man and his family must submit a completed application form NO LATER THAN 11:59 PM Eastern on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Please ensure to review the application in its entirety. Late applications will NOT be accepted.*

3. INTERVIEW (Prior to NEOP): Upon submitting a completed application, each potential Esquire at least one parent and/or guardian will be invited to attend an informational interview via Zoom with the ΙΛ Chapter Education Team and the AEI Membership Chairman. This interview is designed to get to know the Candidate and his family before beginning New Esquire Orientation, as well as clarify any questions from the application.*

5. NEW ESQUIRE PRESENTATION: After successfully completing the New Esquire Orientation Process, newly inducted Esquires will put on a public presentation for family, friends, and the community. Incoming Esquires are expected to put forth the utmost effort, dedication, and grit to put on a worthy show. The New Esquire Presentation will be featured on the fraternity’s social media platforms.*

6. PARTICIPATION POST-INDUCTION: Once duly inducted, Esquires are encouraged to attend AEI programming in the summer and into the fall. Recruitment for Fall 2024 will begin in July. New Esquires are also encouraged to attend the Summer 2025 Tour.*

Program Fees

1. We want to ensure our Esquires are well fed, have all necessary supplies for instruction, and have the opportunity to participate in different activities; therefore, we have implemented a non-refundable program fee in the amount of $150 US Dollars to be paid to the Iota Lambda Chapter NO LATER THAN Monday, November 25, 2024. Payments can be made to the Iota Lambda Chapter via Zelle, PayPal (with additional fees), cash or personal check. Please see a member of the ΙΛ Education Team should you need any assistance.*

1. AEI STEP TEAM: All Esquires are encouraged to try out for the AEI Step Team. The Team practices weekly and participates in step shows & other engagements around the city, as well as in the annual Circle City Classic Parade. Costs such as costumes, food, and travel are NOT included in the program fee.*
